On my mind this week

I’ve got a lot on my mind this week. Work is busy, I’ve not been feeling well, and I’m adjusting to being a boss for my interns while having a mini crisis and questioning what ‘m doing with my career. On top of all that, I’ve been feeling extremely unmotivated to create. I usually try to get a post up on the weekends, but I was having an extremely hard time finishing a post on any one topic and I realized I’d rather just ramble on about some things that I’ve loved so far this week as well as some things that have been on my mind lately.

First up is this EP by Black Canary. This is awesome. Even if you aren’t reading the Black Canary comics, you’ll probably still love the fact that some cool people made three really great tracks for a completely fictional band. That is pretty freaking neat. Also, you probably have a spare three fifty. So buy it.

Next up is a personal lady-thing; menstrual cups. Ever since I moved into my new apartment, I’ve been actively trying to reduce the waste I produce and getting a menstrual cup seemed like the logical next step. Also, tampons and pads are fraking expensive and I was getting angry at how much I had to spend every month.

As I was doing research I found this lovely lady on YouTube and wanted to share her info because she is awesome. Bree is totally adorable and extremely knowledgeable. Her videos were very helpful when I was choosing what cup I would try. She’s also on Facebook and has a website that you can order products through if you’d like.

So I guess what I’m getting at here is that the most helpful period advice I’ve ever gotten has been from a British teenager.

Now to change the subject completely, I found Wil Wheaton’s most recent Radio Free Burrito to be the hard reality check that I needed creatively. Like I said up top, I’ve been feeling creatively unmotivated. But, as I was listening to the burrito, I realised that I wasn’t lacking ideas, I was lacking the motivation to act on the ideas.

So, I’m switching my routine. Instead of waking up early to go to the gym, I am waking up early to work. I’ve found that I’m the most motivated in the AM, and although I miss my morning runs and the gym is always way to crowded after work, I’m trying this new routine for a while to force myself to act on the ideas I have. It’s been working out well so far, but I’ve only been doing it for three days so take that with a grain of salt. What has also been working is keeping a notebook by my bed and forcing myself to write for five freaking minutes about anything at all before I do anything else.

Lastly, I am planning my cosplays for SDCC!

One day I will be wearing Starbuck, another day I’ll be wearing my amazing Phasma dress from Catherine Elhoffer, I think that I will try to make a Captain Marvel vest to wear another day, and the remaining day…. probably not cosplay? I was debating if I wanted to be Kate McKinnon’s character from Ghostbusters. However, I don’t really want to be a Ghostbuster without a proton pack and there is no way in heck I am going to travel across the country with a proton pack. So we shall see.
